Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo was born in 1907 in the outskirts of Mexico City. In 1925, at the age of eighteen, Kahlo was engaged in a bus accident that almost killed her and from which she never fully recovered. After her accident, Kahlo spent months in bed, working with the self-portraiture that would characterise her work. Her difficult, and often painful, recovery became a recurring motif in her writing.
