Description
Contemporary version of a portrait of Queen Henrietta Maria painted by Van Dyck in the early to mid 17th century. Young & Battaglia and Kirin Young give you an alternative to a painting which currently hangs within Buckingham Palace. This playful version is adorned by a black and green butterfly. The charming and friendly demeanour and nature of Queen Henrietta is somewhat emphasised in many respects by the fashioning of a butterfly landing gently on the canvas.
Humour, fun, mystery and intrigue is at play as it is in the whole series of the Butterfly portraits. Again, like the other works in the series, your mind’s eye almost completes the image should you try and look through the Butterfly as you scan around it.
